About Jim Leyritz

Jim Leyritz is a former MLB catcher/infielder/designated hitter and World Series champion with the New York Yankees (1990–1996, 1999–2000). “The King” is best known for hitting numerous postseason, playoff and World Series home runs that either won, tied or changed the momentum of several series.

Jim made his professional debut on June 9, 1990 with the New York Yankees. He bat and threw right–handed exclusively in the majors and had a unique batting stance of extending his left leg out while keeping his right leg bent and twirling his bat above his head. The best known of Jim's playoff heroics occurred in the 8th inning of Game 4 of the 1996 World Series against the Atlanta Braves when he hit a three–run home run off Mark Wohlers, tying the game and leading the Yankees to an improbable comeback and eventual win. In 1999, he hit a second historic solo home run against the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the 8th inning of Game 4 of the World Series making the final score 4–1. During his eleven year MLB career Jim also played with the Anaheim Angels, (1997), Texas Rangers (1997), Boston Red Sox (1998), San Diego Padres (1998-1999) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2000).
